Best of Europe Trail: Through the Lužnice Valley from Planá nad Lužnicí to Týn nad Vltavou

The first Czech hiking trail, which is on the list of the best trails in Europe Leading Quality Trails Best of Europe, leads through the deep valley of the Lužnice River past the historic towns of Tábor and Bechyně, old mills and ruins. It is 55 km long in total.
The hiking trail through the Lužnice Valley from Planá nad Lužnicí via Tábor and Bechyně to Týn nad Vltavou was included in the list of the best hiking trails in Europe Leading Quality Trails Best of Europe on December 4, 2019. It is 55 km long and is divided into 4 daily stages. It starts in Planá nad Lužnicí and ends in Týn nad Vltavou at the confluence of the Lužnice and Vltava rivers.

Ruins of Příběnice and Příběnička near Tábor

The ruins of Příběnice are located on the left bank of the Lužnice River, about 10 km southwest of Tábor. Together with the Příběničky Castle on the opposite bank of the river, it formed one of the largest fortresses in our country in its time.
Tábor – Bechyně line – the first electric railway line in the Czech Republic

The 24 km long line between Tábor and Bechyní has been in operation since 1903. The Bechyní Railway is the work of the famous electrical engineer and inventor František Křižík. At that time, the railway carriages were already illuminated, heated, equipped with portable telephones and lightning rods on the roofs.

The unique Stádlec Chain Bridge

Near the village of Stádlec in South Bohemia you will find the last Empire chain bridge in the Czech Republic, which is also the only bridge of its kind in Europe. The 157-meter-long and 6-meter-wide bridge is a frequent spot for hiking, cycling and a popular subject for photographers.
Hýlačka Lookout Tower

Hýlačka is a hill approximately 3 km southwest of Tábor. On its peak from 1920 to 2012 there was a wooden lookout tower, which was the oldest lookout tower in the Czech Republic. In 2012 it was hit by a fire and only the burnt area remained. After that, the Czech Tourists Club started a collection for the new construction of the lookout tower.

We are the largest zoo in southern Bohemia, focused on protecting endangered species in our country and around the world. We are involved in the return of the aurochs to Czech nature and you can find unique species here, such as the Ussuri tiger or the Arctic wolf.

Kotnov Castle and Bechyně Gate in Tábor

From the former Gothic castle, only the cylindrical Kotnov tower has survived to this day. Its other parts were gradually destroyed by new reconstructions from the 17th century. However, that tower is the oldest example of a battery tower in our country - a beam with a pulley was extended through the bay window and cannons were pulled up with its help.
Chocolate and Marzipan Museum in Tábor

The museum is located in the historic center of the city in three connected Gothic houses with a Renaissance facade. The exhibition is partly dedicated to chocolate and its processing, partly to marzipan.

Gothic Castle Dobronice

The ruins of Dobronice Castle rise on a rocky promontory above the Lužnice River at an altitude of 440 m, 6 km from the town of Bechyně. The origins of Dobronice Castle date back to the 14th century, when it was owned by the lords of Dobronice, later the lords of Rožmberk.
Lego Museum Tábor – fun for the whole family

Among the exhibits you can see the Statue of Liberty, Tower Bridge, Eiffel Tower or the Indian Taj Mahal. You can also see a copy of Beneš's villa, built from more than 20,000 Lego bricks. The building is built in a scale of 1:42 and is a faithful copy of the original.

Beneš's villa in Sezimovo Ústí

The extensive grounds of the Beneš Villa are located in Sezimovo Ústí, at the confluence of the Kozský potok and the Lužnice rivers, on the site where, according to tradition, Master Jan Hus preached. The distinctive and special style of the Beneš family's house was influenced by southern French architecture and is complemented by a large, manicured garden.

Židova strouha – a romantic valley near Bechyně

The romantic canyon-like valley of the stream called Židova strouha is one of the most romantic places in Bohemia. At the mouth of the Lužnice River, Židova strouha is flanked by massive rock massifs. In 1988, the canyon was declared a natural monument.
Ruins of Kozí hrádek – refuge of Master Jan Hus

Southeast of Tábor, on the left bank of the Kozský stream, lie the ruins of the Gothic castle Kozí Hrádek, which is the most memorable castle in the Tábor region. In 1962, it was declared a national cultural monument, thanks to its connection with the life of the church reformer Jan Hus.

Monínec Ski Resort – great skiing near Prague

The resort in the middle of Bohemia in the area called Czech Siberia is equipped with the most modern technology. It is only 80 kilometers from Prague and offers visitors two red and blue ski slopes with a total length of 1,800 meters as well as snow tubing. In the territory of the microregion of the Community of Municipalities of Čertovo břemeno (the interface of South and Central Bohemia), there is a marked system of cross-country ski trails. Within the system, there are marked and regularly maintained ski trails with a length of sixty-five to eighty-five kilometers. The trails have a slightly undulating profile.
